Visa to Malta for study from the UAE

Whatox helps clients living in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other emirates organize educational trips to Malta. We handle the preparatory work first: we understand your situation, determine a suitable visa route, collect and verify documents, and assist with the application process from the UAE.

A visa to Malta from the UAE is issued in different categories, and Malta visa for language courses — is no exception: the choice of category depends primarily on the duration of the program, and not on its name.

What are the travel purposes we work with:

  • English courses;
  • language schools;
  • junior programs;
  • summer camps;
  • educational programs;
  • short-term training;
  • other educational purposes permitted by the visa procedure.

There's no single "student" solution for all travel. Therefore, the appropriate visa category depends on a combination of factors:

  • citizenship of the applicant;
  • UAE residency status;
  • type of course and educational institution;
  • duration of the program;
  • age of the applicant - separate rules apply to minors;
  • living conditions in Malta;
  • individual circumstances of the trip.

Where does the work begin?

Before preparing documents, we first determine which visa route is suitable for a specific trip. This eliminates unnecessary paperwork and reduces the risk of errors during submission.

Who is suitable for accompaniment?

01

For adults

If you live in the UAE and want to take a language course or short-term study in Malta.

02

For parents

You are organizing a trip for a child or teenager to a language course or English program.

03

For minors

The child travels alone, with a parent or other accompanying adult.

04

For UAE residents

You live in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or another emirate and want to arrange submission from the UAE.

What type of visa do I need to study in Malta?

There is no universal "Malta student visa" suitable for any educational trip. Specifically, according to the Central Visa Unit (Identità), Malta issues two main types of visas: the Schengen Visa (short-stay) for up to 90 days, and the National Visa (long-stay / D-Visa) for longer than 90 days, but no more than 365 days.

This topic is referred to by various names in searches: Malta visa Dubai, Malta visa UAE, Malta student visa UAE, Malta English course visa, or Malta language course visa Dubai. However, there is no official category with these names—there is a Schengen C-Visa for short courses and a National D-Visa for long-term study.

Course up to 90 days

Short educational trip

For courses lasting no more than 90 days, the Schengen Short-Stay Visa (C-Visa) is officially available. Applications are submitted in the applicant's home country or legal residence, and biometric data is provided. If approved, the visa is issued as a multiple-entry visa for the duration of the course plus a seven-day grace period, provided the total duration does not exceed 90 days.

The course lasts more than 90 days

Long-term training

For courses exceeding 90 calendar days, a National Long Stay Visa (D-Visa) is available—including those applicants who are exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 90 days. Applications are submitted through an authorized External Service Provider.

It is important not to confuse different concepts - these are different procedures with different requirements:

  • tourist trip — the purpose of the trip is not educational;
  • short-term educational visit — course up to 90 days, category C;
  • long-term training — course over 90 days, national visa D;
  • residency — a separate procedure that does not coincide with obtaining a visa.

The category is determined after checking the program

We determine the category after reviewing the program and duration of stay. Without precise dates, program name, and educational institution information, it's inappropriate to determine the final visa category, as the list of documents and the application process depend on these details.

Visa to Malta for minors under 18 years of age

If the applicant is under 18, additional documents and procedures apply, as the application is being submitted on behalf of a minor. This applies to anyone under 18: a child attending summer camp or a teenager taking a language course.

It's important to understand: a Malta visa for a child or a Malta visa for a minor is not a separate visa category. Generally, the same category applies as for adults and depends on the duration of the course, but documents related to age and parental consent must be added to the application.

The specific set of requirements depends on:

  • age of the child;
  • does the child travel independently;
  • is the child traveling with one of the parents;
  • whether the child is traveling with another accompanying adult;
  • parental rights and guardianship circumstances;
  • visa category (short trip or long-term study);
  • living conditions in Malta.

If the child is traveling alone

A preliminary list of documents that usually need to be prepared:

  • ☐ Birth certificate
  • ☐ Consent of parents/legal guardians
  • ☐ Copies of passports/IDs of both parents
  • ☐ Documents proving parent-child relationship
  • ☐ Custody documents, if applicable
  • ☐ The appropriate parental consent form
  • ☐ Documents on training/course
  • ☐ Proof of residence
  • ☐ Travel arrangements

The format of consent matters

Free-form parental consent is generally insufficient. For a national D visa (courses over 90 days), the official Identità list of documents explicitly requires: an original birth certificate, legalized and translated into English by an official translator, a copy of the parents' passports, and a parental consent letter—original and translated into English. For a short-stay visa (C visa), requirements for the consent form, signing procedure, witnesses, and notarization are published by VFS Global in the UAE. This source was unavailable for verification when preparing this page, so the specific consent format must be confirmed on the official VFS Global website. There is no single universal format for all minors—requirements vary depending on the visa category and the child's travel companion.

If a child is traveling with one of the parents

Possible list of documents:

  • ☐ Birth certificate
  • ☐ Consent of the second parent, if required
  • ☐ Copy of the second parent's passport/ID
  • ☐ Guardianship documents, if applicable
  • ☐ Course documents
  • ☐ Residence documents
  • ☐ Travel documents

Requirements depend on the family situation and guardianship documents. We do not assume that the consent of the second parent is automatically required in every family situation – this is verified on an individual basis.

If a child is traveling with another adult

  • ☐ Birth certificate
  • ☐ Parental consent
  • ☐ Copies of parents' passports/IDs
  • ☐ Details of accompanying adult
  • ☐ Living conditions
  • ☐ Course documents
  • ☐ Travel documents

If the parents are divorced or live separately

In this situation, additional documents may be required. Possible documents:

  • ☐ Birth certificate
  • ☐ Court custody decision
  • ☐ Sole custody document
  • ☐ Consent of the second parent, if applicable
  • ☐ Documentation explaining why consent cannot be obtained, if applicable to your situation

Important: Divorce alone does not automatically grant one parent sole custody. The extent of parental rights is confirmed by documents, and these documents determine whose consent is required.

If the child is under guardianship

Possible documents:

  • ☐ Guardianship document
  • ☐ Passport/ID of guardian
  • ☐ Birth certificate
  • ☐ Documents confirming the right to give consent on behalf of the child

Important when submitting documents for a minor

The requirement for parents or legal guardians to appear at the Visa Application Centre and sign documents in the presence of an officer is part of the application process and varies depending on the visa category and the family's circumstances. We do not guarantee that this requirement applies equally to all applicants: the exact requirements are published by VFS Global in the UAE, and at the time of this page's preparation, this source was unavailable for verification. Therefore, this requirement must be verified directly on the official VFS Global website (link in the "Sources" section). Please note: this applies to the application process, not to both parents being required to travel to Malta with the child.

What is important to clarify in the documents?

According to documents from the educational institution: Some documents are provided by the school itself. The exact set depends on the school and program, so we confirm this with the educational institution before submitting.

According to financial documents: We don't specify a fixed amount "in the account." For a national D visa (courses over 90 days), Identità's official list of documents states the requirement as a percentage of Malta's national minimum wage—at least 75% for each month of study—along with a bank statement for the last three months and a bank reference. If the trip is being sponsored, the sponsor's documents are also included. The current minimum wage, as well as the requirements for short courses (C visa), should be verified with the official source at the time of application.

Regarding translations and legalization: the need for translation and legalization depends on the document and visa category. For example, for a national visa D, the official Identità list requires documents to be submitted in English and translated by an authorized translator from the official list, while birth certificates must be submitted in the original, legalized, and translated. However, for short courses, translation and legalization requirements must be confirmed by an official source.

In addition, for minors, the specific package depends on whether the child is traveling alone, with one parent, or with another accompanying person.

This is a preliminary checklist.

This is a preliminary checklist, not a one-size-fits-all checklist for every application. The exact documents required depend on citizenship, UAE residency status, age, duration and purpose of travel, study program, residence, and family situation. Before submitting, please check the latest requirements from official sources.

What we do

Our task is therefore to organize the process: understand the situation, determine the route, assemble the correct package of documents, and assist with the submission from the UAE.

Step 1 · Evaluation

Preliminary assessment

We verify citizenship, UAE residency, applicant's age, purpose and duration of trip, program, accommodation, and availability of a financial sponsor.

Step 2 · List of documents

Personal checklist

We determine which documents are needed specifically in your situation, instead of a universal «one-size-fits-all» list.

Step 3 · Verification

Document verification

We review the assembled package before submission: completeness, data compliance, document validity, and the need for translations and certification.

Step 4 · School

Coordination with the school

Where applicable, we assist with communication with the educational institution: enrolment, acceptance letter, course confirmation, accommodation, visa support.

Step 5 · Submit

Organization of submission

We help coordinate your application, appointment, insurance, and preparation of documents and additional supporting materials.

Step 6 · Children under 18

Special assistance for minors

We separately check parental consent, birth certificate, parental documents, guardianship issues, accommodation, and travel arrangements for the child.

Is it possible to apply for a visa to Malta from Dubai?

According to official information from the Central Visa Unit (Identità), for courses lasting up to 90 days, applications are submitted where the applicant resides or is legally present: directly at Malta's diplomatic missions, at the mission of another Member State representing Malta, or through an authorized External Service Provider. However, for courses exceeding 90 days, applications are submitted through an authorized External Service Provider.

This means that applicants legally residing in the UAE can use the applicable Malta visa application process in the UAE. Therefore, the specific visa center and jurisdiction for your emirate should be determined solely by consulting the latest official information from VFS Global.

What determines the possibility of filing

Eligibility for application is determined, among other things, by the UAE residency status and the specific jurisdiction of the applicant. Physical presence in Dubai alone is not sufficient—legal residence or legal presence in the country of application is essential.

How long does it take to process?

We do not promise a fixed timeframe: processing times are set by the competent authority and may vary depending on the visa category, workload, and circumstances of the specific application. The standard processing time depends on the application category and specific circumstances. Before submitting, please check the current deadlines on the official website. VFS Global publishes current deadlines for Malta and the UAE. At the time of this page's preparation, the official VFS website was unavailable for verification, so specific processing times require confirmation directly on the official VFS Global website. For long-term study (national visa D), the official Identità document list states that applications must be submitted no later than nine weeks before the course start date.

Therefore, we recommend starting the process early and allowing time for document preparation, receipt of documents from the educational institution, and registration for submission.

Information verified: August 2026.

How much does the registration cost?

The cost consists of two different parts, and it is important not to mix them.

Part 1

Official expenses

Visa fee, visa center service fee, medical insurance, document translations, document legalization or certification, where applicable, and other third-party expenses. These fees are not set by us—current rates are published in official sources.

Part 2

Whatox Services

The cost of support depends on the complexity of the situation, the number of applicants, the need for document verification, the presence of a minor, and any additional services. We calculate the cost individually after a preliminary assessment.

Language courses and programs in Malta

Malta is a popular destination for English language learning: English is one of the country's official languages, and the choice of programs is quite wide. Therefore, we can help clients considering:

  • English language schools;
  • junior programs;
  • summer camps;
  • short-term educational trips;
  • individual lessons (private lessons);
  • other suitable educational programs.

We don't limit our clients to a single school or sell tuition: the choice of educational institution is yours, and our role is to handle the organizational and visa aspects. Here's an example for reference: ACE English Malta visa support information, where programs are also divided into courses of up to 90 days and over 90 days. This is an example of an educational institution's information resource: ACE is not a partner, official partner, or affiliated school of Whatox.
