If you live in the UAE and wish to visit Italy or other Schengen countries:

If you are a UAE resident and planning to apply for a Schengen visa, one of the key requirements is to have a valid UAE resident visa. Your visa must be valid for at least 90 days after your intended return date from the Schengen area. This requirement is necessary to confirm your right to return to the UAE after your trip.

If you have a visa on arrival (UAE tourist visa) and do not have a resident status, you must take into account the following:

  • Transition to resident status: If you do not have a residence visa but wish to apply for a Schengen visa, you may need to change your visa status to a residence visa to meet the requirements.
  • Proof of residence and work in the UAE: Proving your status in the UAE may require additional documents such as an employment contract, a copy of a trade license (if you are running a business) and income statements.

If you are applying for a visa, make sure you have provided all the required documents and that they are up to date. Incomplete documents may result in your visa being refused.

Analysis of the situation for Russian citizens entering the UAE with a visa on arrival and who do not have resident status:

Possibility of applying in the UAE: If a Russian citizen is in the UAE on a short-term visa or visa on arrival and does not have a resident status, he or she cannot usually apply for a Schengen visa from the UAE. This is because the standard requirement is to have a valid UAE resident visa valid for at least 90 days beyond the intended date of return from the Schengen area.

What to do if it is not possible to apply from the UAE:

Applying from Russia:

The simplest solution for those who do not meet the UAE residency requirements is to apply for a Schengen visa from Russia, where they can more easily prove their stable status.

Change of status in the UAE:

If a Russian citizen wishes to apply from the UAE and plans to stay for a longer period, they may consider changing their visa status to a resident status if they are eligible. This process involves getting a job, buying a property, or engaging in other activities that qualify them for residency under UAE law.

It is important to understand that applying for a visa from a country where the applicant does not have a resident status usually complicates the process. Visa issuing authorities require assurance that the applicant will leave the Schengen area after visiting, and having a stable residence status in the country of application is part of this assurance.
